Michelle Obama announced that her mom, Marian Robinson, passed away on May 31. She was 86 year old.
After Barack Obama won the 2008 presidential election, Robinson became known as America’s 1st grandmother. She lived at the White House with her daughter and son-in-law and assisted in caring for her granddaughters, Sasha and Malia. Robinson remained pretty low-key but would pop up at holiday events, some special trips overseas, and White House concerts.
My mother, Marian Robinson, was my rock, always there for whatever I desired. She was the same steady backstop for our whole family and we are heartbroken to share she death news today. We wanted to offer some reflections on her remarkable life,” Michelle captioned her Instagram post.
In the added statement, she focused that her mom “had a way of summing up the truths of about life in a word or two, maybe a quick phrase that made everyone around her stop and think.” She continued, “Her wisdom was almost innate, as something she was born with, but in reality, it was hard-earned.”

Rest in power, Miss Marian.
